Please bring a change of socks and shoes as no muddy shoes are allowed in the Clubhouse.

Course:

Some may be experienced with this 5.45 mile course but it is hilly, VERY technical with lots of stones, tree roots, some slippy bridges and lots of mud in places. There is a single stream crossing. Don’t worry, there is some downhill, followed by even more climbing!

Please listen to advice from the marshalls!!
Fell or trail shoes are a must.
There is a cut-off at the 2-mile point which is a generous 35 minutes. If any runners fail to meet the cut off they will be directed down the track to the church and will pickup the return leg of the route back to the finish. Please do not cross the finish line as this will affect the results. Instead, inform the race official that you’re declared a DNF.

Please leave your muddy running shoes outside.

Course:

This year the course is approximately 5 miles, from the start by the goal posts, you will go round Littlemoor Park 1 and a half times, head down the field towards the bottom right, turn left up the hill and follow the path around keeping the outer edge of the park on your right, you will follow the tree line around and up a couple of sharp hills towards the top of the park and loop back down towards the start and down to the bottom right hand corner again. Leave the park via the wooden bridge (take care it can be slippy), then go into the field, follow the field with the wall on your left, this field can become very uneven and rutty when cold or very muddy when wet. At the bottom you will be directed up a sharp hill and through the open gates, turn left up the track towards the farm at the top. Go through gate near the end of field, you will be directed right over stile to a gate which will be open. Down the dip to a tricky stream crossing, over a wooden bridge up a narrow path to the next marshal (this part can also be very muddy with thick clay type mud), turn right. Follow the path to the gate, use the stile, continue to follow the track to the road (be mindful of cars when entering and running on the road). Turn left for about 200 to 300 metres to where the road bends right, turn left here and over the cattle grid, there is a short track to a stile on your left. From here, follow the field straight down, bear right at the top, there will be netting in place to the metal posts. Turn right, follow the track then through metal posts again to the bottom of the field, bear left here and cross diagonal across field to metal posts. Up a tarmac track to the top, there will be a football field to your left and houses to the right. Bear left through woods on the main track, at the top double back down stocks Lane to the bottom, bear right up past more metal posts to the top, cross a short track into a field through a stile.Turn immediately right and follow field all the way round to the stile (keep the wall on your right), through 3 stiles, and back out of the gate, take your first right and follow the road for around 400 metres, turn left through a stile and diagonal across the field towards the farm. At the top of the field go through stile left up the track and then bear right past houses on your left, at the top turn left down a track, follow the path down to the marshall who will send you down a narrow path follow down to the bottom where you turn right back into Littlemoor park follow the muddy path to the right up the little hill, follow the path around and down keeping to the left down towards the bridge, where marshalls will direct you into the woods, follow the woods for about 1/4 of a mile, be careful with tree routes and uneven paths, keep the wall on your left, at the top of the park you will cut across the top of the start field and do a small loop around the trees, before turning right up to the finish which is the same place as last year. Hope you all have a lovely run.
There will be plenty of marshals
Looking forward to seeing you all again.

cheers
Silver.

Crossgate Harriers Race 4 2025/2026 Season - Sunday 4th January 2026

Finish Line Video

 Results

West Yorkshire Winter League 2025/2026 Event No.4 Crossgates Harriers
Date: Sunday 4th January 2026
Start Time: 10:00am

Race Venue/HQ:

Public footpath entrance near Arts 'n' Flowers Garden Centre, Crossgates, Leeds, LS15 8ST.

Car Parking:

Parking is as always challenging, with available roadside right next to start/finish down the road. We advise car sharing as much as possible, but the main retail shopping park is just 5 mins walk as the preferred option (LS15 8GH) to park and high viz marshals shall direct you to the event area. For those who raced with us last year it’s the same spot! No yellow lines so park both side of the road safely and respect the local traffic.

Facilities:

There will be Portaloo toilets by the start area in the same spot as last year. There will be a bar and big selection of cakes on offer at the Barnbow Social Club literally over the road afterwards, so pop in and taste the delights we have whipped up. Also afterwards in the clubhouse, we have a huuuge raffle with lots of bottles to be won. Anyone that can’t make the raffle and wants a ticket then message me ahead. Please bring change where possible but we will have a card machine. Why not pop in for half hour and show your clubs support 😊 Setup flags and base camp by the start and finish field along the tree line.

Course:

The course remains the same this year for those who remember last time round, I have just ordered some more mud!!! I expect this route to be a fast one based on last years times, with elevation relatively low, but plenty of ups and downs, and of course plenty of mud! 5.2 miles long and is mainly on woodland paths, fields and tracks. It is a bit technical in places with a mixture of heavy mud allied to stones and broken branches, roots, rocks, slopes and as per demand….. we have a stream crossing at the end if the beck levels aren’t too high (wahoo) to finish on approx 400m before the finish line! It’s a decent trail layout, but with wet feet near the end!! I will be sending the Strava route out also, alongside a mini go-pro video for those as a visual ahead of the race. We keep the whole route to public footpath starting off in farmers field, where we complete a large lap clockwise around the boggy perimeter, then over the footbridge and round under the Road bridge and off through the fields where we meet the uphill climb of bog lane up and around to loop back and off up to the top of the woods, lots of raised roots and branches here, but a lovely speedy downhill section to the course before climbing back up. Back down bog lane and across the relatively new gravel path. We head up the ELOR and down into what will I’m sure be the photo gallery of the Sunday night as we cross the stream, it’s only about a foot deep at the min, then it’s an uphill finale to the finish line.

Fell or Trail shoes are essential Please listen to and take notice of marshals instructions - they are there to ensure your safety. They will be loud and encouraging and the Crossgates Harriers roar will be evident throughout!

We look forward to welcoming everyone, and encourage as many of you to come back for a drink after to celebrate with some lovely homemade cakes on offer to buy! We have the Barnbow club and it’s big enough for us all, so let’s fill it and celebrate together would be great.

5 miles, the same as the last couple of years, grass and trail. Fully marked course with marshals, map attached.

https://www.strava.com/segments/30755367

There is a wide start line heading up a grass hill to start, make sure you're in the right place depending on your pace. Turn left at the top of the hill and follow the trail until the marshal and signs divert you back down the hill on the grass, the trails then follow around the 1st fishing lake, and onto the next 2 smaller lakes, here we turn right around the lakes and head up on the trail towards the entrance, at the top there is a right turn which leads across the top of the field before turning right down the grass hill, around half way down there is another right turn leading back towards the top of the hill at the start, this then follows the trail back to the 1st down hill down the grass, this time we turn left at the bottom back towards the start area across the grass and back onto a trail, the trail turns sharp right and down another trail past the finish area, this trail is undulating and has a few turns, we lead back up towards the 2 smaller lakes, this time bending around to the left and eventually onto a technical downhill section which can have a few large puddles and there can be a number of trip hazards such as holes, bricks, branches etc. Once at the bottom of the hill you follow the trail up hill back towards the start / finish area, the trail leads to the bottom of a grass hill, follow this all the way to the top of the field and then turn left, around half way along this field, we turn left back down towards the start area, turning right at the trail and then down the grass hill again, turn left here on the grass again, back to the trail and the sharp right bend and it's a downhill finish to the finish mats. It is a fast finish with over a 1KM of downhill.

Course:

The route is the same 'lumpy' route we have used in previous years with a lap of the fields to start, before heading up through the woods (lump number 1) along the edge of the golf course before running down 'The Eiger'. Please note there will be a time cut off of 30 minutes to get to this point (roughly 2 miles), after which time you will be directed down the road through the car park back to the finish field.

Onto the tarmac passing the cattle grid and round to the bottom of 'The Wall of Death' (lump number 2) all the way towards the farm buildings. From the top of the hill, you're then running through farm fields before descending towards the lower farm. Don't think the hills are over though, as you've now got to run back up 'The Eiger' (lump number 3) ahead of the flowing descent back down to the finish field.

The course will be signed and marshaled. Any runner retiring from the race must make a marshal aware AND report to the finish line marshal / timers.

Please make sure you respect the farmers land and property, no climbing over gates or fences, if there is a queue for any stiles or gates, please wait your turn.
