It's BACK!!! By popular demand Dewsbury's race is back on the calendar.

Please remember this race is the traditional Fancy Dress, there will be prizes.
Car Parking:
As in previous years, car sharing is highly recommended. There is Limited parking at race HQ. For those of you who cannot get into the car park you should park on the roads around Station Road, Lowlands Road, Back Station Road and Hopton New Road which is a 5 minute walk to the start. There will be marshals on site to direct you to the start from Station Road. Please park courteously for local residents.

Facilities:
There will be some portaloos at the start area but there will be no changing facilities.

Course:
There has been a slight tweak to the route since we last ran in 2022, we've made it slightly less annoying by taking out the additional lap of the field at the end.

The course is still around 4.9 Mile and still includes going up the Eiger!! The course runs through fields and woods, there will be tree routes, fallen leaves, rocks, holes (all covered by leaves) and there is a stile around half way round, photos will be added to Facebook the day before.

As always, the route goes through farmers fields, and near to a riding stables. Please keep an eye out for any livestock or horses on the course. Please also look out for people walking dogs who may be in the woods. You should not need to dodge shooting clays this year.

We recommend that you wear your most aggressive footwear you have if you want any chance of staying upright. Please take extra care on the route. In short, the course this year is not for the faint hearted.

Post Race Refreshments:
After the race we will be heading over to the Navigation Tavern, Station Road, Mirfield.

Please note, the Navigation will open from 11:30, so it will give you a chance to get dry clothes on and footwear. Please ensure that you do not wear muddy trail shoes in the pub.

Food is available to buy from the Navigation (and it is nice food)

There will be a raffle so any donations would be appreciated. Please bring cash for the Raffle.

We look forward to welcoming you on Sunday.

https://www.strava.com/segments/30755367

There is a wide start line heading up a grass hill to start, make sure you're in the right place depending on your pace. Turn left at the top of the hill and follow the trail until the marshall and signs divert you back down the hill on the grass, the trails then follow around the 1st fishing lake, and onto the next 2 smaller lakes, here we turn right around the lakes and head up on the trail towards the entrance, at the top there is a right turn which leads across the top of the field before turning right down the grass hill, around half way down there is another right turn leading back towards the top of the hill at the start, this then follows the trail back to the 1st down hill down the grass, this time we turn left at the bottom back towards the start area across the grass and back onto a trail, the trail turns sharp right and down another trail past the finish area, this trail is undulating and has a few turns, we lead back up towards the 2 smaller lakes, this time bending around to the left and eventually onto a technical downhill section which can have a few large puddles and there can be a number of trip hazards such as holes, bricks, branches etc. Once at the bottom of the hill you follow the trail up hill back towards the start / finish area, the trail leads to the bottom of a grass hill, follow this all the way to the top of the field and then turn left, around half way along this field, we turn left back down towards the start area, turning right at the trail and then down the grass hill again, turn left here on the grass again, back to the trail and the sharp right bend and it's a downhill finish to the finish mats. It is a fast finish with over a 1KM of downhill.

Course:

This year the course is approximately 5 miles, from the start, turn left at bottom of the track, follow the track keeping left unless told by a marshal. Bear right to go to the bottom of the park where you will be directed in to the woods. Keep to the edge with the wall on your left hand side. We will have chalk spray on the path. You will go round Littlemore 1 and a half times. Leave the park via the wooden bridge, then go into the field, at the bottom you will be directed through the gate and turn left up the track towards the farm at the top of track. Go through gate near the end of field, you will be directed right over stile to a gate which will be open. Down the dip to a tricky stream crossing, over a wooden bridge up a narrow path to the next marshal, turn right. Follow the path to the gate, use the stile, continue to follow the track to the road. Turn left for about 200 to 300 metres to where the road bends right, turn left here and over the cattle grid, there is a short track to a stile on your left. From here, follow the field straight down, bear right at the top, there will be netting in place to the metal posts. Turn right, follow the track then through metal posts again to the bottom of the field, bear left here and cross diagonal across field to metal posts. Up a tarmac track to the top, there will be a football field to your left and houses to the right. Bear left through woods on the main track, at the top double back down stocks Lane to the bottom, bear right up past more metal posts to the top, cross a short track into a field through a stile.Turn immediately right and follow field all the way round to the stile (keep the wall on your right), through 3 stiles, and back out of the gate, take your first right and follow the road for around 400 metres, turn left through a stile and diagonal across the field towards the farm. At the top of the field go through stile left up the track and then bear right past houses on your left, at the top turn left down a track, keep right to the bottom to a gate which will not be open., turn left same way through woods as the start and complete almost a full lap following the line of the woods (wall on your left), finally turn left up the track to where you started and the finish line.
There will be plenty of marshals, it should be a fast start as the paths narrow in the woods.
Looking forward to seeing you all again.

Crossgate Harriers Race 8 2023/2024 Season - Sunday 10th March 2024

Finish Line Video

 Results

West Yorkshire Winter League 2023/2024 Event No.8 Crossgate Harriers
Date: Sunday 10th March 2024
Start Time: 10:00am

Race Venue/HQ:

Public footpath entrance near Arts 'n' Flowers Garden Centre, Crossgates, Leeds, LS158ST

Car Parking:

Parking is available roadside right next to start/finish. For those who raced with us a few years ago fyi there won’t be that big long hike to the start, and we are a 5 mins walk down from the Springs retail park if necessary. No yellow lines so park both side of the road. To avoid congestion please car share where possible.

Facilities:

There will be Portaloo toilets by the start. There will be a bar and big selection of cakes on offer at the Barnbow Social Club literally over the road, so pop in and taste the Mother’s Day delights we have whipped up afterwards. Also afterwards in the clubhouse, we have a huuuge raffle with lots of bottles to be won. Anyone that can’t make the raffle and wants a ticket then message me ahead. Please bring change where possible but we will have a card machine. Setup flags and base camp by the start and finish field along the tree line.

Course:

The course has changed this year for those who remember last time round, as someone has now gone and built a dual carriage way in the middle (Elor). I expect this route to be a fast one to finish the series on, with elevation around 400m, but plenty of ups and downs, and of course plenty of mud! 5.2 miles long and is mainly on woodland paths, fields and tracks. It is a bit technical in places with a mixture of heavy Mud allied to stones and broken branches, roots, rocks, slopes and as per demand….. we have a stream crossing (wahoo) to finish on approx 400m before the finish line! It’s a decent XC layout!! I will be sending the Strava route out also, alongside a mini go-pro video for those as a visual ahead of the race…. We keep the whole route to public footpath starting off in farmers field, where we complete a large lap clockwise around the boggy perimeter, then over the footbridge and round under the Road bridge and off through the fields where we meet the uphill climb of bog lane up and around to loop back and off up to the top of the woods, lots of raised roots and branches here, but a lovely speedy downhill section to the course before climbing back up past the outdoor exercise playground is (monkey bars are optional)… We head over the ELOR rusty bridge and down into what will I’m sure be the photo gallery of the Sunday night as we cross the stream, it’s only about a foot deep at the min, then it’s an uphill finale to the finish line.

Fell or Trail shoes are essential Please listen to and take notice of Marshals instructions - They are there to ensure your safety. They will be loud and encouraging and the Crossgates Harriers roar will be evident throughout!

We look forward to welcoming everyone, and encourage as many of you to come back for a drink after to celebrate the season as the last race! We have the Barnbow club and it’s big enough for us all, so let’s fill it and celebrate together would be great.

Facilities:
There are toilets and changing facilities at Heath. There will be Bacon Butties on sale afterwards in the clubhouse, and a SUPER RAFFLE. Please bring a change of socks and shoes as no muddy shoes are allowed in the Clubhouse.

Course:
The course has slightly changed this year approx. 6 miles long and is mainly on woodland paths and tracks. It is a bit technical in places with a mixture of Heavy Mud allied to stones and broken branches, roots, rocks, steep slopes and the infamous 'Log Flume' (which you will be pleased to know is full at the moment) but it’s XC so anything can change! Also some short tarmac sections, so we have something for everyone. (I will be sending you the Strava route when I recce this on Saturday, and an update on the Log Flume!)

Slight Amendment of the course:
After crossing Wilson bridge the route will take the runners underneath the bridge at Copley. The runners will then turn immediately left on to the lane to Copley Cricket Club (gate to be open on the day). As they approach Copley cricket club, they will then turn right on to walkers’ path, this path will take the runners to the right-hand side of the cricket pavilion. The path then leads the runners under the railway bridge on to the canal tow path. The runners will be on the canal tow path for circa fifteen metres before turn left and going back on to the original route.

Please listen to and take notice of Marshals instructions - They are there to ensure your safety. Anyone wearing headphones will be removed from the race for this reason.
